Patrolman - One full time police officer position needed to serve and protect the Hannahville Indian Community through active law enforcement.  Duties include investigate and prepare written reports of calls for service and violations of Tribal, State and Federal laws, standard patrol activity, make arrests, render medical assistance, appear before Tribal, State or Federal Courts and assisting the general public.  
 
Qualifications - HS Diploma or GED; graduation from an accredited police academy; must be MCOLES licensed or have the ability to become MCOLEs licensed at the time of hire.  Associate degree or higher in Criminal Justice preferred.  Must be able to obtain bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) special Law Enforcement Commission (SLEC) certification; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to handle stress and remain calm under adverse conditions; make accurate and precise decisions while employing good reasoning ability and critical thinking skills; must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history, be a Michigan resident and be able to meet the departments residency requirements, reputation must be above reproach; must have no domestic violence convictions and no felonies, must successful complete the departments background investigation and drug and alcohol testing.
 
Wage – Based on experience.   There is a one-year probationary period.

POLICE SERGEANT – One full time position, 80 hours biweekly that is responsible for the Officer supervision and ensuring that all laws and regulations are enforced for the Hannahville Indian Community.  This position is under the direct supervision of the Police Lieutenant and will act as a liaison between Officers and Lieutenant; supervise and coordinate activities of the police force to include shift coordination, and work assignments; prepare a daily work/training schedule; assist in training development of Officers; investigate crimes and supervise community complaints; supervise and maintain logs of all police equipment; assist in controlling expenditures, process improvement and quality control; maintain a safe, productive and orderly work environment; compile information for field investigations; ensure reports are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner; and to maintain and promote community relations.


QUALIFICATIONS -   High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Associates degree or higher in Criminal Justice is desired.  Must be MCOLES licensed or have the ability to become MCOLES licensed at the time of hire.  Must be able to obtain Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Special Law Enforcement Certification (SLEC).  Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an officer with the Hannahville Tribal Police Department OR 5 years rank of Sergeant or higher in a law enforcement agency in the State of Michigan. Must have above average knowledge of Tribal, State and Federal Criminal/Traffic Laws and department policies and procedures.  Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an ability to handle stress and remaining calm under adverse conditions. Must have the ability to make accurate, precise decisions with critical timing and possess problem resolution skills. Must have the ability to operate a patrol vehicle safely under all conditions.  Applicant must also have a valid Michigan driver’s license and be able to pass the background and post offer drug test.
